Biblio/Graphics Contest Winners

Inspired by the book design work of Dave Eggers and McSweeney’s, the Smith Library Center held a Biblio/Graphics contest during the weeks leading up to Eggers’ The Writer’s Voice lecture, inviting students to design new covers for their favorite books. From the great entries we received, our panel of judges selected three winners, with a tie for first place!

ARTstor Mobile

JSTOR recently announced that a mobile version of the ARTstor database is now available. You can access ARTstor Mobile by going to mobile.artstor.org on your mobile device and logging in. To utilize ARTstor Mobile, you will need an ARTstor account.

Features include:

  • Search – Search the Digital Library’s 1,000,000+ images by keyword.
  • Open saved image groups – Open and view previously assembled groups of images. Use the flashcard view to study or quiz yourself.
  • View – View search results in list form and tap to enlarge, rotate, or open attached image data.
  • Browse – Browse ARTstor images by collection, classification, geography, or Featured image groups.

ARTstor mobile is currently supported on iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Safari.

Alexander Street Music Databases — Send-to-Mobile

Recently, database publisher Alexander Street launched a “Send-to-Mobile” function in their streaming music databases. By clicking the mobile phone icon on any album or track page, a pop-up will appear, from which you can:

  • send a link to your phone via email or text message
  • get a shortened link you can manually enter in your mobile browser
  • scan a QR code link to the content

The provided links will be functional for 48-hours, and can be utilized both on and off-campus.

The Smith Library Center subscribes to Alexander Street’s American Song, Classical Music Library, and Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries databases.
