Faculty Travel Grant
These funds (up to $1,000 per trip for travel expenses such as registration fees, airfare, taxis, lodging, meals, and personal mileage) are intended to encourage faculty visits to model inquiry-based programs and attendance at related workshops across the country. Such travel serves to promote the Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant’s mission to provide broad, thoughtful and sustained faculty development opportunities as part of the process to shift Southwestern’s Natural Science Division curricula to an inquiry-based format.
Active-Learning Project Seed Money
These funds (up to $300 per project) are intended to promote the development, usage, and refinement of pedagogical strategies that provide new student-centered active learning opportunities in labs and classes. The seed money may be used for equipment, materials, student aids, and any other tools necessary for the project. Interested faculty may apply at any point throughout the 2012-2013 academic year, during which about 10 awards are expected to be given. This is the only year in which this seed money will be available.
