SKYHAWKS OUTLAST THE BUCS (5/16/07)
After a game under their feet, the Bucs rose the next day for the all too familiar early consolation game on the nice small stadium field next to the Big Pizza Hut Park against the #8 Ft. Lewis Skyhawks, yet another team from the tough RMLC.
Both teams were a little slow, to start, but settled into a very good, and very close game. By halftime, the score was tied, as both teams went back and forth all day, trading goals and possessions. Bryson, Jones and Irish all played well on offense, as well as Daulton and Brown and Sample, who was literally all over the field.
With four minutes left in the game, the Bucs scored a goal to bring it within one to make it 6-7. The Bucs lost the ensuing fac-off but were able to hold defensively with a little over a minute and a half left and tried to hit a streaking Jones down the sideline for a fast break that went off the stick and out of bounds. When the Skyhawks regained possession, they did not waste a second chance at putting the game away. Off the pressure defense the Bucs were providing, Ft. Lewis found the back of the net with a few clicks on the clock to seal the victory and win 8-6.
This was a game that could have gone either way and was well played. The Bucs came away knowing they played very well against a very poised team, and although 0-2 were having the best time any of them had ever had at Nationals.
The Bucs had one more game the next day before the season was officially under wraps.
