SU SECURES #1 SEED IN PLAYOFFS WITH 13-3 WIN OVER UTA (4/8/06)
On Saturday, the Bucs hosted a very talented Maverick team that
has been underrated all year. The bucs knew this would be a game
that could easily go either way.
With this in mind, the Bucs came out and controlled the game from
the beginning, controlling ground balls, time of possesion, and
the transition game. By the end of the first it was 4-0, and 6-0
at halftime. By the start of the fourth, the Bucs, whose defense
played another great game, had increased the lead to 11-0 before
the Mavericks scored.
Jake, who had a phenomenal game in goal with great saves and crisp
outlet passes, yielded to James "dreamcrusher" McDonough in the
fourth.
All four lines played exceptionally well, with Thompson gaining
the first goal of his career (after at least 3 that have been
disallowed for some reason or another).
Our face off men hald their own against one of the best in the
league, and all of our attackmen go meaningful minutes. Almost
the entire team was able to get some playing time, continuously
pushing the tempo.
The win puts SU as the #1 seed in the playoffs hosted by
Southwestern in three weeks. While the other three seeds are
still to be determined, the teams are Trinity, St. Ed's, anhd UTA.
All three teams are very strong and on any given day could win the
whole thing. The BUcs, after last year's playoffs, know that
whoever they have the opportunity to play, they will have to be on
top of their game.
They hope to iron out some deficiencies in the final home game of
the year against TCU on Saturday, April 22nd.
We continue to enjoy the support we have received from everyone
and will update you as soon as we know more on who our first round
opponent will be.
