Engaging Minds, Transforming Lives

Student Life

Academics are our highest priority, it's true. But we're not all about textbooks and research labs. There's plenty to do outside the classroom! From an annual music festival to renowned lecturers to Opera Theatre; Zumba class to Ultimate Frisbee games to Thursday Chapel; Greek life to varsity athletics to community outreach, there's something for everyone at Southwestern.

More than 85 percent of Southwestern students live on campus. With a wide variety of living options—from traditional residence halls to apartments, both single gender and co-ed—and a central dining hall, Southwestern offers a unique residential community.

Southwestern’s 90+ student organizations - including eight nationally-affiliated fraternities and sororities - allow you to connect intellectually, socially, politically and spiritually with other students who share your passions and interests. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Create it! Student Activities can help.

We take fun seriously here, and we know it's important for students to have a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Southwestern Intramural & Recreational Activities (SIRA) provides numerous opportunities for development through participation in intramural sports, fitness programs, sport clubs and outdoor recreation. Fortunately, Southwestern's location and the Central Texas weather allow for endless outdoor excursions from caving to rock climbing to exploring the vast array of local rivers and lakes, and more.

Need a change of pace? Simply walk, bike or drive a few block to Georgetown's historic square, where you'll discover festivals, art shows, theatre and restaurants. And with Austin just a short drive south, you have even more opportunities to dive into the local live music, art and food truck scene.
