  • Image preview Friday Night Live: Omid Singh
    The Cove
    This week’s FNL features comedian Omid Singh. Omid is a nationally-touring stand-up comedian who is based in Los Angeles.  He has appeared with comedians such as Maz Jobrani (Axis of Evil) and Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), as well as at over 40 colleges.  His entry at the 2013 No Budget Film Festival, “SUBWAY” was the Audience Award Winner.  Omid says that his unique upbringing (half Indian, half Persian, and has lived in over a dozen cities across two continents) has influenced his comedy, making him a diverse performer who enjoys connecting with every type of audience.

  • Image preview Friday Night Live: Max Frost
    The Cove

    This week’s FNL features singer, songwriter, and guitarist Max Frost, who pulls aspects of various styles (blues, funk, electro, hip-hop, pop) into his music.  Originally from Austin, Max has collaborated with artists such as Bob Schneider and hip-hop MC/producer Kydd, as well as played Blues on the Green.  He released a single, “White Lies”, in April 2013 and his debut EP, “Low High Low”, in October 2013.  Max also toured with Fitz and the Tantrums in summer 2014.

  • Image preview Friday Night Live: Phunk Phenomenon
    Tonight’s FNL will feature Phunk Phenomenon, a hip hop dance crew from Boston who train with the Phunk Phenomenon Dance Complex, a non-traditional dance studio with the mission of reaching today’s youth through the art of urban dance.  They have appeared on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” season 6, Paula Abdul’s “Live to DANCE”, and “America’s Got Talent”.  

    Phunk Phenomenon will perform in Robertson immediately following the basketball games, around 9:30 pm.

  • Image preview Friday Night Live: The Rocketboys
    The Cove
    This week’s FNL features rock band, The Rocketboys.  The Rocketboys have played at Austin City Limits Music Festival, CMJ Music Marathon, South by Southwest, and Next Big Nashville.  They have toured nationally with Relient K, The Almost, The Mowgli’s, Kopecky Family Band, Dinner and a Suit, and Mike Mains & the Branches in 2013.  The Rocketboys have released two full-length albums and are currently working on the third with multi-grammy winning producer, Joe Chicarelli.  Their music has been played on ABC’s “Private Practice”, “One Tree Hill”, “Elementary”, and MTV’s, The Real World Washington, D.C., and The Buried Life.

    The Cove
    This week’s FNL features magician, Joseph Tran.  Joseph is a master of both close-up sleight-of-hand magic and modern day stage illusions.  He started performing magic at a young age and earned the Magic Castle’s Young Magicians Achievement Award – the highest honor bestowed upon a young magician.  Joseph has performed for Fortune 500 corporations, on cruise ships, at colleges, and in theaters across the world.

    One of the most difficult things that occur at the end of one term and the beginning of another is the transition between leaders. What happened last year? Is your organization reinventing the wheel every year? A thorough Leadership Transition plan will provide an organization with continuity so that next year’s officers can build on the knowledge gained rather than starting from ground zero.

    In addition to this workshop, Ebony will perform her poetry at 8:00 pm in The Cove.

    The Cove
    This week’s FNL will feature spoken word artist Ebony Stewart.  Ebony is a three-time Slam Champion from Austin.  She has shared stages with Buddy Wakefield and the late Amri Baraka.  She also coached the Neo-Soul slam team finishing 1st place in Group Piece Finals in 2012, coached the Austin Poetry Slam team leading them to 5th place in 2013 at the National Poetry Slam, and coached the TheySpeak Poetry Slam team finishing top 8 in the world at Brave New Voices in 2014.  Ebony is currently on her RISE! Tour, promoting sexual health, body image and healthy relationships through performance and workshops.

    In addition to this performance at FNL, Ebony will give a workshop at 4:00 pm in Olin 111.

    The Cove
    This week’s FNL features improv comedy group, Mission IMPROVable.  Mission IMPROVable was named Campus Activities Magazine’s 2013 Entertainer of the Year and 2014 Reader’s Choice Comedy Act of the Year.  They require audience suggestions and participation as co-agents in the comedians’ hilarious “missions”.
