Southwestern is one of 44 colleges and universities in the country to be a named a Best Buy school in the 2015 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges.

The guide, which is created by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, takes into account many qualities when selecting its Best Buy institutions, including:

  • four- or five-star academic ratings,
  • inexpensive or moderate price category, and
  • quality of student life on campus.

The 2015 guide, which was published July 1, is the 31st edition of the publication. The book has profiles of more than 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Twenty-two public schools and 22 private schools were included on the publication’s Best Buy list.

For the past several years, the Fiske Guide also has included Southwestern on its lists of small colleges and universities that are strong in business and small colleges and universities that are strong in art or design.

Fiske personally visited Southwestern in March 2014.
