Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Admission. This is a year round, full-time position that helps families, particularly transfer students, with the college admission process. The Assistant Director recruits students from Texas community colleges, coordinate the transfer recruiting effort and veterans services programs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: read and evaluate applications and provide input for transfer student candidate selection process; converse with students and families about Southwestern University via email, phone, college nights, and information sessions; nurture, build, and sustain ongoing professional relationships with prospective transfer students and those who influence them to achieve assigned enrollment management objectives; become familiar with transfer student culture and any distinctive aspects of the culture, including but not limited to sources of students, preferences of students, and sources of competition; research the potential for travel and recruiting programs; interview students for admission and complete appropriate paperwork for such interviews; develop and coordinate transfer recruitment activities with 5 community college systems around the State of Texas; develop and promote veterans services opportunities including Post 9-11 and Yellow Ribbon program benefits; serve as technical liaison for Enrollment Services division for Slate content management system; complete appropriate department paperwork, including travel expense reports, interview reports, etc.; develop proficiency in degree requirements and course transferability and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Liberal Arts; two years of experience in an undergraduate admission office; availability and willingness to enthusiastically and frequently work evenings, partial weekends, and campus visit programs, as needed for success (these busy times may occur several months per year); demonstrated ability to self-manage time, activity, and spending, staying focused on accomplishment of objectives; outstanding presentation skills; excellent organization, decision making, and problem solving skills; excellent computer skills; excellent reading and analytical skills; demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; excellent interaction and communication skills, both written and verbal; have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community; ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation; possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have the ability to lift boxes of at least 25 lbs. Preferred qualifications: 2+ years of experience in an undergraduate admission office; experience working with the transfer student population; familiarity with college access programs designed for veteran students; extensive knowledge of the University and the programs offered.
