Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Operation Achievement.  This position is a three-quarter time (approximately 30 hours per week), 10-month (August 1 – May 31), professional-level staff position with benefits reporting to the Director of Civic Engagement.

In partnership with the Department of Education, the Operation Achievement program provides after-school mentoring and enrichment activities for approximately 70 middle school students, grades 6-8.  A paid university student staff and volunteer mentors provide these students with help in their academic studies as well as enriching their lives with a variety of interactive programs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  coordinating the Operation Achievement program; interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising a small paid student staff and a large volunteer mentor staff; collaborating with the University’s Department of Education; collaborating with local school personnel to identify students, coordinate activities, and plan programs for the middle school students; communicating with and developing programs that engage the students’ families; developing educationally sound programs to foster mentor relationships and improve student achievement; conducting program evaluation; overseeing program website and newsletter; managing the program budget; and engaging in professional development for the purpose of enhancing the Operation Achievement program.

Qualifications include:  a Bachelor’s degree in education or a strongly related field; teaching experience in the public school system; strong leadership and management skills; effective communication skills with youth and adults; experience working with youth and their families; effective curriculum development skills; proficiency in program evaluation procedures and technical writing skills; demonstrated experience with budget management.  Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and English is preferred.
