Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Science Facilities and Equipment.  This position is a half- time (20 hours per week), twelve-month, staff position reporting to the Director of General Chemistry Laboratories.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  overseeing the use, service, and maintenance of major teaching and research equipment; supervising installation and startup of major equipment; supervising storage and disposal of chemical and biological wastes; performing eyewash and shower safety inspections at required intervals in Fondren-Jones Science Hall; ordering, receiving, and maintaining all compressed gasses and cryogens; keeping cryogens at safe levels for proper operation and performance of NMR; overseeing routine maintenance of science division satellite facilities including the greenhouse and observatory; maintaining the shop room as a safe, clean and orderly facility, including the upkeep and tracking of all shop tools and equipment; performing minor carpentry and electrical repairs as needed for faculty (and students, as needed); and helping coordinate minor renovations and maintenance of science facilities.

Required qualifications include:  high school diploma or GED; general knowledge of wood working, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and shop tools; minimum of one year experience utilizing a technical background in carpentry or electrical work; minimum of one year experience in the operation of shop tools; possession of basic math skills; ability to work both independently, without close supervision, and also as a member of a team; ability to carry up to fifty pounds; ability to reach, twist, bend, stoop, stand, kneel, handle, push/pull, and lift. 

Preferred qualifications include: five plus years experience in carpentry, electrical work, or plumbing work; possession of a valid Texas driver’s license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles and record meets standards of the University’s insurance carrier (this is a requirement for individuals in a position that requires driving on a regular basis, including golf carts and other University vehicles).
