Kate Nelson has been selected to exhibit her work in many different galleries, but this is her first solo exhibition. The exhibition is entitled, it was a small country everyone was famous, which runs from March 27-May 2, 2014 at the Porter Hall University Gallery at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Along with the exhibition, Nelson delivered a public lecture about her work, which resulted in a lengthy interaction between the artist, their students and the public. The faculty said that was the most excited and engaged they had ever seen their students at an exhibition. Read more at her blog.

Nelson’s work explores the complexities of relationships; capturing the moment of interaction, the implied unsaid and reaction of communication. By abstracting the human form, simplified to the point of unrecognition, Nelson imparts aspects of the body at ease into the structure and hand of the vessels. The forms interact in a demure manner typical of first and chance encounters. Through reduction fire, and use of waxes, sands, and sandblasting, Nelson grafts the visual and physical texture of skin completing the human allusion.

Nelson received her Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Southern Illinois University and her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas.
