Students in the Spanish III class taught by Angeles Rodriguez Cadena put an altar for the Day of the Dead in the Olin lobby Oct. 30. Students brought a picture of a deceased loved one for the altar and read short descriptions of that loved one in Spanish for the rest of the class.

Spanish professors Katy Ross and Jocelly Meiners brought their classes to see the altar and have some food. The altar had the traditional items to offer the dead: chocolate, bread, tamales, fruit, flowers and candles.

The event was sponsored by the Spanish program, Latin American Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies.
