Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Director of Institutional Research. This is a full-time, exempt, twelve-month position with full benefits, reporting to the Provost and Dean of the Faculty. The Director of Institutional Research has management responsibility for all institutional research and reporting functions, and is responsible for the leadership and development of a comprehensive institutional research program to support the University’s mission and strategic planning and assessment initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide information and analytic support to the University’s administrative decision-makers in order to facilitate strategic planning, policy-making, resource allocations, enrollment projections, and other processes requiring sound strategic analysis; ensure the University’s compliance with state and federal reporting requirements, including the coordination and completion of applicable surveys/reports such as IPEDS, ICUT, etc.; coordinate the implementation, completion, results analysis, and results reporting (as requested) of all external surveys with institution-wide impact such as AAUP, HEDS, US News, etc.; translate data into usable information for the University community via the Institutional Research web site, public presentations, email, etc. and engage in discussions about institutional research and reporting; compile and maintain various databases suitable for longitudinal studies and statistical analyses; provide guidance to academic and administrative units on survey instruments and data interpretation as related to assessment activities and/or program reviews; provide data to faculty in support of external grant applications; compile, interpret, and report comparative data about peer and aspirant institutions; create and maintain a University Fact Book.
Position qualifications: Master’s degree in a research-oriented field; five years experience performing institutional research duties within a college/university setting; demonstrated ability to design, execute, and manage complex research projects with minimal supervision; understanding of federal reporting requirements; demonstrated ability and knowledge of research design, statistical methods, data gathering, analysis and interpretation related to trends in higher education; ability to present complex information in different formats to various audiences, including those with limited numerical literacy; knowledge of qualitative and quantitative measurement techniques; excellent writing and verbal communication skills; excellent computer skills, including regular use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, statistics packages (SAS/SPSS), graphing applications, and student information systems; excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with a keen attention to detail and accuracy; and ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product. Preferred position qualifications: Ph.D. in a research-oriented field; experience with Datatel.
