Library Resources Acquisition Assistant

Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Library Resources Acquisition Assistant in the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center.  This is a full time, twelve month position with full benefits.

Primarily responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ordering and receiving in-print and out-of-print library materials in varied formats and languages; processing invoices for materials; certifying all purchases for payment and reconciling expenditures reflected in vendor, purchasing card, library and university accounting systems; performing bibliographic searches; supporting the library’s resource donation and de-selection work; maintaining beneficial relationships with vendors, faculty, students, and staff; preparing purchase order requisitions; creating accurate, detailed order records; claiming overdue orders. Other duties include receiving deliveries, sorting mail, and other projects as assigned.  This position may include up to five hours per week of public service desk work.

Requirements:  High school diploma and one or more years of library or purchasing experience, high level of competence using personal computers and effective Internet searching; ability to work with great attention to detail and accuracy.  Must be highly organized and have the ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds.  Must work cooperatively with others, including supervision and training of student workers; must be able to master all relevant capabilities of library’s online acquisitions subsystem, OCLC, and local university accounting database and have a willingness to work a few Saturdays during the regular academic year.

Preferred Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree or some college, academic library experience, including catalog and database searching; library acquisitions experience, including Voyager Acquisitions module; and familiarity with French or Spanish.
