Organic Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator - with faculty rank

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Southwestern University seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month organic chemistry laboratory coordinator beginning in August 2013. The appointment is for a renewable non-tenure track staff member with faculty rank. Applicants must have completed a PhD in chemistry with in-depth skills and expertise in organic chemistry.  Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to chemical education research and innovative pedagogy are particularly encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will oversee the organic chemistry laboratory curriculum and develop innovative inquiry-based laboratories in collaboration with departmental faculty as part of our recent Howard Hughes Medical Institute award.  The laboratory coordinator will teach several sections of first- and second- semester organic chemistry laboratories and may contribute to other courses of study.  Additional responsibilities include on-going development and preparation of new laboratory material; maintaining instructional equipment; supervising and training undergraduate peer mentors; and assisting with course and departmental assessments.  The candidate must be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and education. Opportunities are also available to conduct research with undergraduate students. Candidates who have a strong commitment to enhancing diversity in academia are also preferred.
