Brown Symposium
Traci Giuliano
John H. Duncan Chair and Professor of Psychology; organizer of this year’s Brown Symposium
Traci Giuliano, holder of the John H. Duncan Chair and Professor of Psychology, is the organizer of this year’s Brown Symposium. She has served on the faculty at Southwestern since 1994, after earning her B.A. in psychology from the University of Texas and her M.A. and Ph.D, in social psychology from UCLA. Giuliano’s favorite part of her job is mentoring students, and she’s proud that the 28 articles she’s published in peer-reviewed journals involve 38 undergraduate co-authors, and that more than half (16) have been first-authored by her students. Her passion for human sexuality began in 2005 when she and her colleague Fay Guarraci began team teaching a summer course on the topic and found that it touched students’ lives and relationships in ways they never dreamed possible. She is a two-time winner of Southwestern’s Outstanding teaching award, has won the Methodist Board of Higher Education in Ministry’s Outstanding Teaching Award, and has been nominated twice by Southwestern for both the Minnie Piper Stevens Foundation teaching award and the CASE U.S. Professor of the Year award. She lives with her spouse, Abby, and her daughter, Casey, in Austin.
