On April 24th, Southwestern Intramural and Recreational Activities (SIRA) culminated the 2011-12 year with a luncheon to recognize graduating student staff members and winners of SIRA year-end awards.

Three students were recognized for leadership, sportsmanship and outstanding performance that they each displayed in the Intramural Sports Program. Josh Tates earned the award for Intramural Official of the Year while Zach Jenner and Lilly Duarte won Intramural Male and Female Athletes of the year awards for their accomplishments in the SIRA program.

“Josh did an outstanding job for us this year as an official and we look forward to working with him next year as he joins us an Intramural Supervisor,” said SIRA Assistant Director Anna Castillo.

Additionally two Southwestern staff members, Denise Barnes and Susan Leavell of the Athletic Department were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the SIRA Department. Both were awarded the Tex Kassen Distinguished Service Award for 2012.

“Both Susan and Denise provide services to SIRA that exceed my expectations every day,” said SIRA Director Derek Timourian. “SIRA is very fortunate to have the support of two such devoted Southwestern employees who work so diligently to assist our department.”
