The Pirate Apprentice program gives students a chance to spend a day with successful alumni. In 2009, senior Connor Evans spent a day with 2003 graduate Samantha (Peden) Knech, who is an attorney with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Program enables students to shadow successful alumni over winter break

In addition to getting to spend time with friends and family over winter break, several Southwestern students will have the opportunity to explore careers they are interested in.

More than 20 students have signed up to participate in this year’s Pirate Apprentice Day program, which is sponsored by Career Services. The program matches sophomores with alumni in their hometowns who work in fields in which they are interested. Maria Kruger, the internship coordinator in Career Services, said the program was started to motivate sophomores to start thinking about summer internships and also about career development in general.
