Another busy semester has come to a close for the Math and Computer Science department at SU. Many social events have taken place allowing students, alumni, and faculty (both current and retired) to join together, have fun, and share stories and accomplishments.

The year began with the CS Club’s annual White Elephant Gift Exchange, which was heavily attended by current CS and Computational Math majors, alumni, faculty, and other members of the CS Club. The party was hosted at the home of emeritus faculty member Barbara Owens. Several fun and funny gifts were exchanged, as well as a few notorious ones that re-emerge every year.

Later in the semester, the Sigma Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the Computer Science Honor Society, inducted four new student members: Emma Kathryn Groves (CS and Math 2016), Alex Rollins (CS 2018), Ryan Beeman (Computational Math 2016), and Connor Murphy (Computational Math 2016). These new members were joined by current members and faculty for a celebratory dinner at Wildfire restaurant.

Lastly, at the end of the semester the department welcomed all graduating seniors and departmental tutors to celebrate at Hat Creek Burger Company. Faculty members were able to relax with students who had already completed their finals, and discuss the year’s accomplishments as well as plans for the future. Congratulations seniors!
