Southwestern University recently announced a new program inviting lifelong learners aged 50 and over to audit classes. These adults will receive half off the regular rate for auditing classes at Southwestern. Auditing a class allows those interested in a subject to take a course without receiving a grade or credit.

The University is currently accepting applications for spring classes through Dec. 15, 2015. Classes begin on Jan. 11, 2016.

“Lifelong learning is at the core of what we believe at Southwestern,” Christine Bowman, dean of Admission and Enrollment Services at Southwestern, said. “We want to encourage adults who are lifelong learners to continue their journey with us.”

As a private liberal arts institution, Southwestern offers courses across disciplines including the arts, humanities and sciences. For a full list of courses, prospective students can visit the course catalog online at www.southwestern.edu/academics/registrar/catalog.

Adults who would like to audit a class must complete a visiting student application, which can be accessed at www.southwestern.edu/admission. Enrollment in courses is approved based on space available. Courses designed to develop skills and that are “hands-on” in nature such as applied music, studio art or fitness and recreational activities may not be audited.

Typically, a class audit at Southwestern costs $150 per credit hour, or $600 per course. This new program will allow adults aged 50 and over to audit classes at $75 per credit hour, or $300 per course.
