Southwestern University alumnus Jay Scheinman ’15 has been named one of 64 Coro Fellows in Public Affairs, one of the longest running and most prolific leadership development programs in the nation’s history.

The program is focused on providing opportunities for aspiring public servants and uses the community as a classroom to train the next generation of change makers, aiming to build  versatile leaders with the ability to forge connections and lead across the nonprofit, business and government sectors. Competitively selected applicants will join an intimate cohort of 12 to 16 participants for the nine-month program, with each cohort encompassing a wide range of communities, interests, ideologies and experiences.

“I am extremely honored to have been selected as a Coro Fellow,” says Scheinman. “The Coro Fellowship Program in Public Affairs is building upon the exemplary education I received at Southwestern. Once my time in Coro concludes, I hope to have gained a better sense of how my energy and strengths can best be channeled to enact the greatest amount of social change.”

David Gaines, Southwestern’s director of scholarships and fellowships, is “most pleased, but hardly surprised, to hear of Jay’s latest accomplishment. His leadership as a Sumners Scholar during his time at Southwestern was exemplary. He has the gift of big-picture thinking and in-the-moment interactions. He will be an asset to a prestigious fellowship program that claims Senator Diane Feinstein and the late film critic Gene Siskel among its previous recipients.”

This is the 69th class of Coro Fellows in Public Affairs, which has more than 10,000 alumni, including leaders in national/global businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and elected public office. For more information about the program, visit http://www.coro.org.
