Prof. Howe is leading a second summer session field school in digital 3D recording of architecture for archaeology at his site of Stabiae, where he is general director and master planner of a project to create a large archaeological park at the site of ancient Roman villas.

The course is a 3-credit course offered through the School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning at the University of Maryland.

Dates are: arrival Sunday, June 21, departure, Saturday, July 11, 2015. Program cost is $3300, covering full room and board at the Vesuvian Institute of the Restoring Ancient Stabiae Foundation.

The course is open to undergraduates and graduates, with some preference given to students who have had some experience of architecture, or have an ability to draw, particularly freehand architectural drawings, but also for those students in fields such as archaeology, classics and art history. Knowledge of trigonometry or CAD is not necessary, although students should be prepared to bring a personal computer equipped with a current version of AutoCAD, which can be downloaded free for anyone with a .edu email address, and Adobe Illustrator.
