On Friday, September 6th, Dr. Anique Olivier Mason of MIT will be leading a workshop entitled: “But I don’t like beer: A guide to identifying and reducing stereotype threat to maximize student performance.” Her workshop will take place in Olin 110 from 3-4pm, followed by a reception in the Olin lobby.

Dr. Anique Olivier-Mason is a technical instructor in Professor Cathy Drennan’s HHMI Education Laboratory at MIT. Together with Dr. Beth Vogel Taylor, Dr. Olivier-Mason works on initiatives for “Improving Chemistry Teaching and Mentoring Nationwide.” For her Inquiry Initiative seminar, she will be leading participants in an interactive workshop on teaching in a diverse classroom or laboratory. Following the diversity training, participants should (1) understand stereotype threat and recognize diversity issues in their classrooms and (2) gain strategies and confidence in addressing diversity issues.
