Off-Campus Access to Helios Files

To access your Helios storage from off-campus you will need to use File Transfer Protocal (FTP). A free FTP program we recommend is Filezilla. All you need to get started is the name of the ftp sever at SU which is ftp.southwestern.edu

You can also access your files off-campus from any browser by typing in the address bar or URL:

ftp://SUeID@ftp.southwestern.edu

You will be prompted for your password. Once successfully authenticated, you will see your folders and files displayed in a list format. Most documents are stored under the Documents or Desktop folders. To open a folder, click on the folder's name. To open a document, click on the document's name. Depending on your browser, you will be asked to either save the document to your computer or it will open directly in the prograrm in which it was created. IMPORTANT - Make sure when you SAVE the file, it is to a location on your computer and not in a temp or temporary folder.

For Firefox, there is a very nice add-on that allows you both get and put files from within Firefox. It it called FireFTP and is available for free at: FireFTP
