How to Publish Your Web Pages and Documents to Your Southwestern Personal Web Site

Documents that make up your web pages are not copied or moved in the same way as your other documents. If you are using a web page creation/editing program such as Kompozer or Dreamweaver, you can set the Publish settings to move your documents to your web page space. You can also use other programs termed as an FTP client application to move your files to your web space. There are two common applications to do this - Filezilla [Mac and PC] and Fetch [Mac].

Transferring files to your web space with Filezilla [Windows]

Download and install FileZilla, http ://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

1. Open FileZilla for Windows
2. Fill in the following in the QuickConnect bar at the top:
   • Address: ftp.southwestern.edu
   • User: (your username)
   • Password: (your password)
   • Port : (leave blank)
3. Once connected, you can choose the folder you want to view or edit. The public_html folder on the remote system, for instance, contains files for your personal website, if you have one.
4. Locate the folder or files you want to transfer by changing the directory path on the local system side of the window. For example, if the files you want to transfer are located on the desktop of the local machine, you will navigate to c:/Document and Settings//Desktop.
5. Drag the file(s) or folder(s) you want to copy to the web folder.

Transferring files your web space with Fetch [Mac]

Download and install Fetch, http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/

1. Open Fetch for Macintosh
2. Fill in the following:

• Host : ftp.southwestern.edu
  
• UserID: your_login_name
  
• Password: your_password

3.Click OK
4. Double click on the public_html folder to open
5. Drag and drop the folder or files you want to transfer
