Engaging Minds, Transforming Lives

Dear [Salutation],

Edward B. Burger took office as the 15th president of Southwestern University on July 1. His energy and enthusiasm are already evident as he gets to know the Southwestern community through meetings around campus, personal appearances around the state and through social media. As an alumnus, trustee and volunteer, I am excited that Dr. Burger has joined the University community and am confident that the future of Southwestern University will greatly benefit from his experience, creativity and innovation.

I invite you to join me in making a gift to the Southwestern Fund in honor of President Burger to welcome him into the Southwestern community. Jean and I continue to support Southwestern because of the impact our Southwestern experiences had on our lives and because we are excited about the future of the University under Dr. Burger’s leadership.

Dr. Burger’s arrival marks the beginning of a new era for Southwestern; one in which we will continue our storied traditions while creating new opportunities for transforming lives. One of 100 people named to the Huffington Post’s list of “Game Changers” in 2010, Dr. Burger was previously a highly respected professor of mathematics at Williams College. As one who embraces Southwestern’s core purpose, he will provide energetic, transparent, collaborative and visionary leadership that will unify our community, tell the Southwestern story, and move the University forward.

For more than 100 years, Southwestern has survived and excelled on a strong foundation, and is the vibrant place it is today thanks to people like you, who have been a part of its past and its present. Dr. Burger and I believe that in order to make that foundation even stronger for the future, we need our alumni, parents and friends involved, engaged and giving back more than ever.

Again, I invite you to join me in making a gift in honor of Dr. Burger to show our commitment to the University, to the Southwestern Experience and to the students of today and tomorrow. Please help kick off Dr. Burger’s inaugural year by giving today. Your support and your gift matter.
