Kenny Sheppard conducts the University Chorale and teaches courses designed to prepare students for careers in conducting and teaching music. Many of his former students now hold positions as conductors and teachers in public schools, churches and universities.

As the former Artistic Director for Chorus Austin, Dr. Sheppard frequently prepared Chorus Austin for concerts with the Austin Symphony - the performance of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov received the "Outstanding Choral Performance Award" of the 2002-2003 season from the Austin Critics Table.

Sheppard has appeared five times as guest conductor with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He conducted a concert at the Round Top International Festival in 2001, and he appeared as guest conductor of the Big Spring Symphony in 2002. Sheppard has conducted numerous choral and orchestra performances and workshops at ACDA, TCDA, TMEA, the American Musicological Society and the Orchestra of Santa Fe Bach Festival.
