About the Program
Students in the Southwestern Chinese Program can take courses in Beginning and Intermediate Chinese, as well as smaller, more focused classes at the Advanced level.
In addition, the program offers classes on Chinese culture, which serve to complement other courses across the university’s curriculums. Though Southwestern does not offer a Chinese major, students may choose a minor in Chinese, and are encouraged to pair an International Studies major with significant Chinese language study.
As with other language and literature programs at Southwestern, the Chinese program aims to build diverse perspectives. The Chinese program also enhances student learning through the use of multimedia teaching aids, both in the Language Learning Center and in special course materials tailored to Southwestern students’ specific needs.
Chinese language uniquely prepares students for committed engagement and study. Its complex structure and rich visual components make it an ideal area for those students who wish to both challenge themselves and create a practical, globally relevant skill set.
