Kimberly Larson '04

Kimberly Larson '04 had no plans to attend graduate school and no concept of what scientific research really meant when she entered Southwestern University. After graduating as Southwestern's 2003-2004 Chemistry Student of the Year, she entered the University of California-Berkeleys Ph.D. program in organic chemistry without cost, thanks to a graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation. The fifth NSF fellow in Southwestern's history, Larson aspires to work as a medicinal chemist for a major pharmaceutical company. "I enjoy synthetic chemistry and want to apply it to medicine, developing more potent drugs with fewer side effects," said Larson.
